Synopsis of Curriculum Vitae of Miguel Ángel Garrido Gallardo

Present Position: Research Professor at the CSIC. Full Professor of University of Seville (since 1981, emeritus). Since 2001 he is Director of    Specializing     High Course of Hispanic Philology by himself founded and 'Dámaso Alonso' Professor of Exchanges Program with Latin America Universities.


 


Training and Professional experience : Graduate in Romance Philology     from the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM) in 1968, Scholarship holder of Spanish University     Foundation (1963-1967) and of the Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst [German Academic Exchange Service] (1968), Doctorate in Literary Theory from UCM in 1971, Visiting Scholar at the Department of Semiotics of CNRS (Paris) in 1972, Research worker of CSIC since 1973. He has been designed the Adviser of President of CSIC for Humanities and Social Sciences (1996-2000) and Manager for ILE's constitution (2000-2002).


 


Research experience: He was director of    three following Research Programs: Methodological     Modernization of    Hispanic Criticism (1973-1984), Spanish Rhetoric (1985-2000) and    Spanish Dictionary of International Literary Terms (since 2001), project patronized by the International Union of Academies. He has supervised 27 PH.D and 130 graduate theses and post-graduate research projects.   Since 1982 he has been elected early President of Spanish Association for Semiotic Studies (1983-1987), Member of the Executive Board of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (1983-1998), Member of the Scientific Council of Italian Encyclopaedia Institute (1999-2001), such as President    of Spanish Association for Literary Theory and Comparative Literature (2001-2005). He has served on the editorial committees of Calamus Renascens (Cádiz), Dialogía (Ayacucho), Discurso (Sevilla), Exemplaria (Huelva), Hermes Criollo (Montevideo) Humanidades (Montevideo), Itinerarios (Varsovia), Hispanic Letters (Texas), Hispanica Posnaniensia (Posnam,), Humanitas (Jaén), Letras (Buenos Aires), , Kañina (San José de Costa Rica), Lexis (Lima), Prosopopeya (Valencia), Revista de Literatura del CSIC (Madrid), Revista de Poética Medieval (Alcalá de Henares), Rhythmica (Sevilla), S. Europäische Zeitschrift für Semiotische Studien (Viena, Austria), Semiosis (Xalapa, México), Signa (Madrid) and Tropelías (Zaragoza). He has been the editor of the Revista de Literatura (CSIC, Madrid) for 30 years. Currently he is as editor of  Nueva Revista (Madrid). He is an executive member on the board of the bibliographic collection Problemata Semiotica (Reichenberger V., Kassel) as well as director of the collection Teoría de la Literatura y Literatura Comparada (Síntesis, Madrid), Idioma e Iberoamérica (Mapfre, Madrid) and Anejos de Revista de Literatura (CSIC. Madrid).


 


He has read 115 specialisation courses and more than 300 conferences given at almost     every spanish university and cultural and research centres such as very numerous    foreign    universities of Europe, America and Asia (Paris IV- Sorbonne ; University of London;   Jagellonica   University   of Krákow; University of Montréal, Cornell University; Universidad de Buenos Aires; Kobe University , etc.).


 


Areas of Expertise : Hispanic Philology: Discourse Analysis , Semiotics, Pragmatics, Hermeneutics, Speech Theory, Rhetoric, Poetics, Stylistics, Literary Criticism , Theory of Literary Discourse and Cultural Studies.


 


Publications: Author of 22 scientific books and monographs, 180 research articles in Spanish and international journals, 125 papers presented at national and international congresses and more than 100 promotional and educational articles.
