CORPI member Fatma Sinem Eryilmaz has received the Barakat Trust Major Award for her project to undertake a comprehensive study of the Ottoman Imperial Scroll, one of the most enigmatic documents of the sixteenth century that is now preserved in the Topkapi Palace Manuscript Library in Istanbul. The Scroll was begun during the reign of Sultan Süleyman (r. 1520-1566) in order to represent universal history in text and image and to project the idea that the Ottoman dynasty and its contemporaneous sultan were divinely entrusted with a political and religious mission. The award funds research activities up to 10.000 Pounds for a two- year research period.
