PhD Project: "Millenarianism and prophetism in Early Modern Iberia: the Apocalypsis Nova as a case study for religious dissidence."

My dissertation deals with the circulation of Christian millenarianist thought and its connection to some of the main religious dissidence movements in Spain between 16th and 17th century. For this, I will study a doctrinal prophecy written at the end of the 15th century called Apocalypsis Nova [New Revelation]: its diffusion allows us to explore the different contexts where messianism and prophetism were a vehicle for both political and religious tension. Through the analysis of inquisitorial and archival records, I aim to write a history of the Apocalypsis Nova’s reception as a case study for the censorship strategies developed against Early Modern prophetism and its intellectual consequences.
